Black Sheep Boulders

After 7+ years of not finding a particular boulder, I was both relieved and a little disappointed to find it--the memory sure makes adventures grand...

These boulders, and others in the vicinity are of a little different breed of granite than its Desert proper kin--a good thing, IMO. Easy to find, but difficult to explain with a mile approach is what will keep most Batholith visitors away, but if you are up for some variety in your life, then seek out these:

Domes of the Boulder Batholtih

Trevor and I went out yesterday for a bit of exploration...a hike up Halfway Creek and a hike across Big Pipestone Creek to check out the unnamed dome on the opposite side...

This dome, according to Kurt Krueger, had some ancient fixed anchors...we figured summit pitons or some fixed tat, but what we found was a very old bolt line up slab on the rear of the dome. Leeper hangers and quarter inchers...a couple of nice cracks on the slab as well...

This pair of overhanging cracks looked great...something to return to.

Summit push

Cruising one of the slab cracks, a fun romp, reminiscent of Knapsack Crack on the Hogbacks at the Leap...the bolted slab is off to my left...

We rounded out the day with a trip to the Freeway Tavern, as Trevor needed to experience the best Wop Chop in the city...a good day to be sure and nice to be back in the Batholith.

Cheers

Ready...so ready

After a week(literally) of the flu, I'm feeling back on my game again...and quite a bit 'lighter' feeling...maybe this will help with some winter sends though...crazy warm temps lately has melted out much of the Boulder Batholith...but last night's storm may have taken a bit out of the progress...I guess I'll find out in the coming days...

A new year begins

No pictures or reports--just hope that everyone's experiences in the Batholith for 2011 equal or better than those savored in 2010
