The Future of Difficult

Crazy quartzite conglomerate cemented with hard limestone could make this area the top contender for hard bouldering potential in Montana... ...it's a 15 hike above a paved road in between Missoula and Butte Photobucket The discoverer and his companion Gonzales Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Bomber, difficult, AND most of it is anti-SLAB !!!

Return to Lost Creek

Not Batholith pebbles per se--Lost Creek State Park near Anaconda has a dearth of untapped potential for the bouldering genre Here's some smaller, and roadside ones--there are also plenty for the adult-sized population :-) Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Next trip back, I will photo some of the standout projects.

Sheep Mountain Bouldering

On Sunday I headed up to Helena to help Steven move a trailer - it seemed like a good excuse to hit up Sheep Mountain. So Steven, Odenbeck, and I took care of business and then went out in 95 degree heat to go reacquaint ourselves with Sheep Mountain boulders.

While the heat was crazy, it was fun to get back there and play....
(all pics by Odenbeck)

warming up on a very warm slab

A cool overhanging rail to awkward mantel..the heat shut me down on this one, but Odenbeck sent, WORD!

Cool overhang above the main parking area

If any of you Sheep locals see this post and know what these problems are, let us know!

Cheers,
Tom

Odds - n - Ends

Thought I'd drop a quick post. Last weekend, Kalah and I met up with Hutch, Ladd, and Odenbeck to check out the Triple Hearts and head out to the Corner Project. The TH Boulder is classy, and tall! Patrick made very short work on his project, topping out first go! Nice! I messed around on the bottom part of it, but was 'saving it up' for the Corner project.

Right next to it is a wicked project that Ladd started working...it starts of child sized monos to a huge lock off(for him) and finishes with a dyno to the lip, I can barely utilize the holds, thing is sick!

Ladd on his current project

We then headed out to the Corner Project....

stay tuned...video in the works

Cheers!

Lost or Found

Years ago I spotted a boulder near the top of the pass but because it is by a popular campsite getting near it never became a possibility.  Last week I was actually able to drive up to it and I was pretty blown away at the two featured overhanging prows that were right off the road.  I started calling it the Triple Hearts Boulder due to the namesake graffiti.  Today I lucked out again the campsite was vacant- game on...  The question is- are these lost or found gems?

Later I explored around and found tons of weird blown and split boulders from either the railroad some miners or both.  This split boulder still had some metal in the horizontal crack.

Flowers are starting to come out at the top of the pass as well.  All in all it was a nice day in the batholith.
